New face of Galleria Landstrasse Shopping Centre revealed on 22 October

- Far-reaching technical and architectural modernisation completed

- All retail space let, mix of sectors expanded
- Variety show scheduled for 22/23 October

The Galleria shopping centre on Landstrasser Hauptstrasse has been undergoing a thorough programme of renovation since mid-2009. Now shoppers are about to be presented with 15,500 square metres of modern retail premises offering expanded product ranges across three levels. In parallel with the structural transformation, the coverage of sectors has been expanded. New brands such as the gift shop Nanu-Nana, Canadian restaurant chain Freshii, Swarovski and many more will open at the Galleria alongside big-name shops like Müller, DM, C&A, Intersport Eybl, Spar Gourmet and Niedermeyer. The 'new' Galleria officially opens on the evening of Thursday 21 October; on the Friday and Saturday, visitors can look forward to a programme of entertainment featuring fashion parades, raffles and numerous special campaigns to mark the opening of the 43 shops.

Third city district's leading local supplier ready for business

For many years, the Galleria has served as a focal point for its district and a local provider to a densely built-up catchment area of some 85,000 inhabitants. The main advantage of its location is the central position on one of Vienna's principal shopping streets: Landstrasser Hauptstrasse is well served by public transport (lines U3, 75A and 74A) and has its own underground car park offering one hour of free parking and around 400 spaces. Shoppers will be attracted by a varied but balanced blend of stores representing a range of sectors. Leading clothes stores and welcoming eating areas will open for business alongside an extended drug store section, a consumer electronics centre, bookshop and supermarket.

According to Erich Hohenberger, district director for Vienna Landstrasse, “For 20 years, the Galleria has been an important centre at the heart of our community. There's no doubt the recent modernisation of the Galleria is a big plus for the district and the people who live here and will enhance the value of the Landstrasser Hauptstrasse as a commercial centre.”

Bruno Ettenauer, Chief Executive Officer of CA Immo, revealed that, “Two years ago, in the midst of the crisis, we took the decision to invest in the modernisation of the Galleria so that people living in the third district of Vienna would have an attractive, welcoming, state-of-the-art shopping centre in their local area. Today, the Galleria is a retail facility that we can all be proud of – it has a modern look and feel, nearly all the retail space is occupied and more shoppers than ever will use it.”

A multifaceted shopping experience in stylish, modern surroundings

A new escalator and lift system connecting the car park to the various shopping levels is now situated in the front part of the mall; additional daylight is channelled by a vertical light well extending through every floor; the entire facade has been restored and the entrance area has been redesigned, with the original downward-sloping canopy 'opened' outwards. The general mall areas and the spacious special event zone in the basement have also been upgraded. The centre will continue to provide a venue for lifestyle-themed and local events. In fact, the Galleria remained open for business throughout the renovation period.

According to architect and general planner Heinz Brunner of A&GP International, “Our goal was to create a retail facility that isn't overloaded where everyone can feel comfortable – a timeless local centre with charisma, a kind of living room for people living in the third district”.

About the Galleria Landstrasse

The Galleria was built in 1990. Between 2009 and 2010, it was converted and modernised according to the blueprints of A&GP InternationalArchitekt Brunner ZT Ges.m.b.H. The property has been wholly owned by Austrian real estate company CA Immo since the start of 2009. The shopping centre has approximately 15,500 sqm of rentable retail space on three levels; the floors above house some 13,500 sqm of office space. The Galleria's key advantages are its superbly central location on Landstrasser Hauptstrasse, ease of access (by public transport and with an underground car park) and the familiarity of local residents. Throughout its life, the centre has been utilised as a venue for fashion shows and other local events.
