Topping-out ceremony for the office building in Cologne’s Johannisstrasse

Cologne, June 5, 2008. Together with mayor, Josef Müller and all those involved in the project, Vivico celebrated the topping-out ceremony for the new office building at Johannisstrasse 60 - 64. The building which is located in the up-and-coming Kunibertsviertel, one minute from Cologne's main station, boasts 52,000 square feet of rental area and consists of two parts. One part is being newly built by Vivico, while the other is being refurbished.

"Not only does the newly designed complex spruce up the entrance to the Kunibertsviertel," says Cologne's mayor, Josef Müller, "in terms of urban planning, it is an important measure, contributing to improving the quality of the office infrastructure in Cologne's historic Kunibertsviertel". In his speech, the mayor also underscored that an attractive axis comprising Johannisstraße 60 - 64 and the Marriott hotel is being created: "Following the conclusion of construction work, the entrance to the Kunibertsviertel will finally boast the level of quality that Cologne has always aspired to."
Olaf Heinrich, Head of Vivico Cologne, is very satisfied with the preleases signed to date: "We have already leased in over 50 percent of the rental space. This is no doubt attributable to the excellent traffic links and outstanding value for money". Heinrich also emphasises that Vivico has achieved something unique for Cologne with the building: "Because the building is located on a slight incline, it is the only building in Cologne with an historic vaulted cellar that boasts an exit at ground level." Vivico is planning to lease this area to a restaurant caterer.
The renovations and construction measures for the Johannisstraße 60 - 64 complex got underway with the laying of the foundation stone on November 28, 2007. However, the building's history dates back much further. For example, the preserved historic vaults at Johannisstraße 60 were used over 130 years ago as a bakery to bake the coarse rye bread used to feed the army. The current construction work is scheduled for completion in October 2008.
