Dedication of Rainer-Werner-Fassbinder-Platz - culture finds a place in Munich's new Arnulfpark® district.

Munich, 12 October, 2007 - Over 400 visitors celebrated the dedication of the new Rainer-Werner-Fassbinder-Platz in Munich's Arnulfpark® together with the city's mayor Christian Ude and the actor Rosl Zech who featured in many of Fassbinder's films. As part of the dedication ceremony the mayor also fired the starting gun for the unveiling of a new large-scale sculpture entitled ‘Asphaltsee' (Asphalt Lake) by Wilhelm Koch. All children and all the aother visitors then pulled back a huge sheet of material that covered this work of art commissioned by Vivico (image). The artist, Wilhelm Koch, sculpted the titles of films, dramas and radio plays by Rainer Werner Fassbinder into the 400-square-metre, layered asphalt surface.
In his speech the mayor stressed that "the ‘Asphaltsee'  is not only a valuable cultural addition to Arnulfpark, but also for the city of Munich. Arnulfpark is one of the most significant district developments in Munich in recent years. It is astonishing how quickly a lively and attractive district has been created out of a derelict container railway station. I am convinced that the office developments situated here will also be in great demand. Arnulfpark is a superb example of successful cooperation between local authorities and investors."
In his address, Stefan Kleber, Head of Vivico München, noted that "the dedication of this square represents a further important milestone in the development of this new urban district. It is extremely important that there be a lively mix of uses if a district is to function successfully. That's why it was very important for us that Arnulfpark offers not only attractive places to live and work, but also provides other services such as childcare, shopping and leisure activities. With the ‘Asphaltsee' culture is now also represented in Arnulfpark. In just a few weeks' time Rainer-Werner-Fassbinder-Platz will consolidate its status as the cultural centre of the district with the opening of the theatre in the former thermal power station."
With the completion of Rainer-Werner-Fassbinder-Platz and its transfer to the city of Munich, Vivico has concluded its final public project in Arnulfpark®. In August this year Vivico sold the last of its sites at Arnulfpark® which it had decided not to retain. Vivico is currently developing an approx. 27,000-square-metre office building ATMOS in the ‘Air Quarter'. From the summer of 2008 this building will house the new German headquarters of the pharmaceutical concern Bristol-Myers Squibb. The neighbouring office building SKYGARDEN will be developed shortly afterwards in cooperation with OFB Projektentwicklung.
