CA Immo sells land in Düsseldorf to GBI AG

CA Immo has sold a plot of land covering around 17,000 m² (182,986 ft²) in Düsseldorf to GBI AG. The project developer plans to develop an urban quarter on the site, which is situated in a central position at the main station. The selling price is above the book value and an urban design competition has been initiated.

The site was previously used by the railway for loading cars. Now the land has been cleared by CA Immo and handed over in a development-ready state. “This site has unique potential and we look forward to working with the city of Düsseldorf to develop it. Well-known architects’ offices will be invited to come up with ideas for this quarter in an urban design competition. We are eagerly awaiting the results”, says Reiner Nittka, CEO of GBI AG.

CA Immo has prepared the urban design competition in close cooperation with the regional capital Düsseldorf and will manage it until its conclusion. The city’s planning committee unanimously approved the competition and the framework conditions specified therein at its meeting on 20 January 2016 by resolution. The area situated between Konrad-Adenauer-Platz, Harkortstraße, Mintropplatz and the railway tracks with a gross storey area of at least 25.000 m² (269,000 ft²) is to in future offer a mixture of uses that will improve and breathe new life into this district. Corresponding land-use planning proceedings are to be instituted from June 2016 based on the competition results. As part of this development the city of Düsseldorf will also tackle the restructuring and redesign of Konrad-Adenauer-Platz, which has been under discussion for years.
