From 2013 onwards, as many as 1,200 staff members will work in the new building, which will be built in compliance with DGNB green building standards. The investment volume will be approximately € 72 m.

As from mid-2013, some 1,200 employees will oversee sales and service operations for Mercedes-Benz, smart, Maybach and Fuso brand vehicles in Germany from their new headquarters in the Berlin district of Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg. MBVD will therefore be amalgamating the capacity of its two existing Berlin offices at a new base in Friedrichshain. CA Immo Deutschland is involved in the project as project sponsor and investor.

According to Dr. Bruno Ettenauer, Chief Executive Officer of CA Immo, “From our point of view, the cooperation with Mercedes Benz once again underlines our status as a reliable partner when it comes to implementing development projects effectively.”

For Bernhard H. Hansen, the CTO of CA Immo, the foundation stone is a symbol of the company's commitment to sustainability. “We can claim to be acting in an environmentally compatible manner because we are having zero impact on the natural world”, he says. “By building on unused wasteland, we benefit the community by reducing land consumption and utilising existing infrastructure. When the building is in operation, we will save energy by complying with the certification standards of the German Sustainable Building Council.”

Harald Schuff, chairman of the management board at MBVD, is delighted with the contemporary architectural concept of the new structure. “The headquarters building will be ideally suited to the needs of our 1,200 employees”, he says.

The new building was conceived by Berlin architects Gewers & Pudewill; providing an approximate rentable area of 26,000 sqm, it will be realised alongside O2 World on a site spanning some 4,100 sqm. The comb-like structure, rising to a single high point, will incorporate a Mercedes-Benz showroom and bistro – and thus be a living part of the city.
