CA Immo celebrates playground opening in Marina Quartier

Regensburg, 20 June 2018 – Today CA Immo, together with representatives of the city of Regensburg, opened the quarter playground in the new Marina Quartier. With the completion of the playground, a crucial part of the green and open space design is finished.

The first "planners" for the playground, covering 1,000 m² (10,763.9 ft²) in the heart of the quarter, were the children from the immediate neighbourhood. In a workshop organised by the city (Office for Local Youth Work), they developed ideas and wishes for their playground, which were transformed into an unusual concept by the experienced planning office realgrün. The playground was implemented with great attention to detail. A pretend container ship repre-sents the proximity to the Danube and the harbour. Five converted freight containers capture the maritime flair and act as lookout towers to play in and explore. On a green island, slacklines, kite surfers, table tennis tables and table football tables make you want to get up and move.

Gertrud Maltz-Schwarzfischer, Mayor of the City of Regensburg says, "Regensburg is growing. That's why we are creating additional housing. But we also have to think about the children and young people, who also require enough space to play. We count on their expert opinion and include them in the planning. The playground in the Marina Quartier is a successful example of this cooperation. I am delighted that an adventure playground has been created that lets the imagination run wild and invites you to really let off steam."

Dr. Ralf Schneider, Group Head of Development at CA Immo, was pleased with the great commitment of all involved and praised "the expert design of the playground, which is made by children for children." He also thanked the City of Regensburg, which for many years has been a reliable partner of this urban space development, a unique feature in Regensburg. Schneider continued, "For us it is now half-time, so to speak, as the playground represents the achievement of a key milestone for the quarter in the creation of the outdoor facilities. People of all ages and social classes will feel at home here."

The six hectare Marina Quartier is currently developing around the listed Alter Schlachthof and is directly adjacent to the eastern old town of Regensburg. CA Immo purchased the area in 2011 and developed a lively, urban quarter in close cooperation with the City of Regensburg and other residential property investors. A total of 285 residential units have already been finished. Around 390 further homes will follow. In April 2018, the marinaForum culture and events cen-tre opened in the listed Alter Schlachthof, the heart of the quarter.

The high design standards are characteristic of the entire quarter and are ensured by its very own advisory council. The architectural design of the Marina Quartier captures design elements from the immediate neighbourhood and reinterprets them. This exciting mix of styles includes elements from all eras, e.g. clinker brick facades and Gründerzeit elements. Original cobbles can be found in some of the squares and paths.
