Start up for Lehrter Stadtquartier, Berlin

Berlin, 18 September 2008 - The new Lehrter Stadtquartier, situated right next to Berlin's main railway station, is taking shape as a hotel and conference location. Vivico has found an investor and hotel operator for the first site. The Meininger Group will operate a hotel for international business and young travellers on site MK 3. It will be the group's fifth hotel in Berlin. The investor is the High Gain House Investments Group.
Henrik Thomsen, head of Vivico Berlin: "This is the beginning of the Lehrter Stadtquartier, which will play host to hotels of various categories with a total of around 1,200 beds and a conference centre seating around 3,500 people." Vivico is already holding talks with other hotel operators for the other four sites. As Sascha Gechter, Managing Partner of the Meininger Group, is keen to point out: "The site's location right next to Berlin's main railway station, coupled with the fact that it is a short walk from the city centre and the government district, means it fulfils all the criteria required of an ideal hotel location for us. This hotel will be the new flagship for the entire Meininger Group and represents a further milestone in our dynamic expansion." The new hotel will be built on plot MK 3, which measures around 950 m². The Meininger Group says that building will begin in the 4th quarter of 2008.
The planning and business basis for the Lehrter Stadtquartier was put in place with the conclusion of an urban development contract with the state of Berlin and the finalisation of development plans in summer 2006. A 1994 design by architect Oswald Matthias Ungers formed the foundation for the urban development project.
