CA Immo building hotel at Frankfurt main station

Shortly after work started on a multi-storey new car park and mainline station to augment Frankfurt’s main station, construction of a hotel was confirmed for the site. Directly adjacent to the southern exit of the mainline station and very close to the inner city, CA Immo is developing the seventh property of the Steigenberger Hotel Group in Frankfurt. Construction is scheduled to start in the second half of 2016, with the hotel’s opening planned for the end of 2018.

The new eight-level hotel will offer some 400 rooms for individual and business travellers along with 82 underground parking spaces. Hotel facilities will also include a bar, six conference rooms and a restaurant that will link the building to its immediate environs and breathe life into the public area.

“Frankfurt has a special significance for us as a location. Apart from the headquarters of the Steigenberger Group and our flagship Frankfurter Hof hotel, the city also has Germany’s largest airport and mainline station. With a strong portfolio, we are ideally prepared to host many guests from all over the world,” says Puneet Chhatwal, CEO of Steigenberger Hotels AG.

For the landowner, investor and project sponsor CA Immo, development of the new hotel forms part of an integrated urban planning concept. According to Jakob Vowinckel, head of CA Immo Frankfurt, “Over the next few years, the southern side of Frankfurt’s main station will be progressively repositioned as a transport hub. Work on the multi-storey is already under way. We are delighted to be developing this attractive site in partnership with the city of Frankfurt and the Steigenberger Group.”

Step-by-step development of site at Frankfurt’s main station

In phase one, CA Immo will act as project sponsor and investor in the construction of a temporary multi-storey car park by the spring of 2016; this will absorb the 350 or so spaces of the current car park as well as a bicycle parking station. As the multi-storey is being constructed, the first four of 14 intercity coach platforms will also be built. CA Immo will be investing approximately € 8 m in the construction of the multi-storey car park and coach station.

In the second phase, which will commence in the late summer of 2016, CA Immo plans to build the Steigenberger Group hotel on a site at the corner of Mannheimerstrasse and Karlsruherstrasse. As soon as the underground car park of the building is complete (probably in the spring of 2017), six more coach platforms will open for operations.

When the hotel is finished at the end of 2018, the coach station will also be completed; along with 14 covered platforms, it will include waiting areas and relevant facilities (ticket sales office, café, travel goods shop, WC, etc.) on the ground floor and basement levels of the building.
