  • Landscape park is the only one of its kind in Munich
  • Additional tours for interested residents on 24 May 2019 starting at 2.00 p.m.

CA Immo opened the landscape park in the Baumkirchen Mitte Quarter together with Munich's head of the municipal planning and building control office, Prof. Dr. (I) Elisabeth Merk, council leader for district 14 Berg am Laim, Robert Kulzer, the planners and various guests from the neighbourhood.

Over the past few years, under the name Baumkirchen Mitte, CA Immo has developed a multi-functional quarter on the derelict site of the former railway repair plant 4 located in Berg am Laim. Early on the decision was taken to preserve a good 50% of the land as an "ecological conservation area", since the gravel beds of the railway tracks have become a special habitat for rare animal species (such as the blue-winged grasshopper and the sand lizard for example). The plan was to open a space of this type as the first of its kind in Munich and to make this accessible to the city's inhabitants. To this end, a system of footbridges was devised by Munich landscape architects mahl gebhard konzepte for the 62,000 m² area, enabling visitors to enjoy the landscape park, which is the only one of its kind in Munich, without disturbing the delicate flora and fauna. “The Baumkirchen park has turned the former railway repair plant into something wonderful”, enthuses Elisabeth Merk, head of the municipal planning and building control office, “the open space has been consistently and impressively developed, retaining the existing ecological qualities and conveying a very special sense of identity by virtue of its wild, organic character.”

The ecological, naturalistic concept for the area continues through the rest of the quarter as well. There are additional extensive green spaces here and all residential buildings are furnished with roof gardens, which are used by tenants and homeowners for urban gardening. In total, around 600 homes have been built in the quarter, of which the majority are already occupied.

Two childcare facilities and a local shopping centre on Baumkirchner Strasse with two supermarkets, a pharmacy and supplementary services have also already been opened. A new sports centre has also just been built for ESV München Ost.

One of the final elements of the quarter is the NEO building complex. The NEO building complex consists of a six-storey building comprising 50 rental flats, a hotel and an office tower standing at around 60 metres high. The complex is set to be finished in the second quarter of 2020.

Further tours of the landscape park
Residents who were unable to participate in the opening event will be given another chance to take part in half-hourly tours of the park running from 2.00 p.m. to 4.00 p.m. on 24 May 2019. There, they will get to learn interesting facts about flora and fauna at first hand from representatives of the responsible architectural office mahl gebhard konzepte. The meeting point for the tour will be the entrance to the landscape park near Hermann-Weinhauser-Straße 31.
