Frankfurt / Main, 08.04.2019 – The new long-distance bus station in Frankfurt / Main will begin operating from tomorrow, 9 April. The long-distance bus station on the south side of Frankfurt main railway station was developed and built by the property owner and investor CA Immo, in consultation with the City of Frankfurt. As a first step, the planned 14 stops and the necessary entry and exit barriers were completed in order to relieve the traffic situation around Frankfurt main railway station. CA Immo was able to attract the green mobility provider FlixBus to the long-distance bus station during its temporary operation. In a second step, the long-distance bus station is to be expanded for final operation with additional services for travellers.

Long-distance buses are one of the most popular means of transport for residents and visitors of the Main metropolis Frankfurt. For years now, FlixBus has recorded a steady increase in the number of its passengers, and depending on the day of the week, it currently has up to just over 300 daily arrivals and departures. In order to meet the infrastructural needs of this growing demand, the City of Frankfurt initiated the construction of a centrally located long-distance bus station in the immediate vicinity of the main railway station. As the operator, FlixBus will not only continue to be represented with a local sales outlet, but will also take over the management of the bus station’s temporary operations. While Europe’s largest long-distance bus provider already supports the operations at eleven locations across Germany by deploying its own station personnel at the respective long-distance bus stops, it has not appeared as an independent operator until now.

A ground-breaking and exemplary decision by the city for a central long-distance bus stop

The city’s decision in favour of a centrally located long-distance bus terminal in the immediate vicinity of the main railway station has enabled Frankfurt to successfully integrate long-distance and local public transport. Passengers thus benefit from intermodal travel options, while the city meets the demands of a modern metropolis for future-proof and sustainable transport concepts.
