CA Immo celebrates topping-out-ceremony for Mainz office building

Mainz, 24 September 2019 CA Immo celebrated the topping-out of the ZigZag office building in the newly developed Zollhafen Mainz quarter today, together with the Lord Mayor of Mainz, Michael Ebling, Head of Urban Planning Marianne Grosse, and numerous guests. Completion of the building with a leasable area of approximately 4,600 m² is planned for mid-2020. CA Immo’s investment amounts to some 16 million euros in total.

Lord Mayor Michael Ebling commented: “Mainz is continuing to gain importance as a business location in the Rhine-Main area. This is not only due to our excellent location but also, in poiknt of fact, to the development of quarters such as the Zollhafen. The Mainz Zollhafen creates both residential and business premises in a prime waterside location that is both central and attractive. The ZigZag office building is not just a part of this exciting development of the quarter, it sets an inspiring example for the entire office premise market in Mainz.”

Michael Morgan, CEO of CA Immo Deutschland, added: “The ZigZag office building is not only an architectural asset for the city, it also makes an important contribution to the modernisation of the office premise market in Mainz by providing an efficient and innovative approach to space and operational environments. We believe in the potential and attractiveness both of the Zollhafen Mainz and of the city as a whole for companies in the Rhine-Main area. We will continue to look for investment opportunities in office premises.”

The ZigZag office building is being built directly at the waterside, at the northern edge of the harbour basin, offering its future users modern, forward-looking office spaces. Developed by MVRDV (Rotterdam) in cooperation with morePlatz (Berlin), the building provides a total of approximately 4,600 m² leasable area on six floors. Its flexible floorplans can accommodate all commonly required room configurations, from individual offices to open space solutions. Office environments can be managed through innovative solutions – the light or room temperature, for example, can be easily controlled via smartphone or tablet. Radio technology has been used throughout instead of more conventionally used cabling, saving natural resources.

The building is easily accessible both by car and by public transport. Local destinations in Mainz, such as the city centre and the central train station, as well as regional locations such as the airport, Wiesbaden and Frankfurt can be reached in a short time. Its immediate surroundings are likewise undergoing dynamic development: right next door, a hotel and more apartments are being built, and CA Immo has recently commenced construction of a quarter’s garage in Inge-Reitz-Straße, which will provide parking spaces for approximately 400 cars.

The start of construction of around 50 apartments and approximately 3,000 m² of office space on the “Hafeninsel V - Kaufmannshof” site in Zollhafen Mainz is likewise planned for 2020. The year will also see the beginning of construction work for another 90 or so apartments on the “Hafeninsel IV - Flösserhof” site. CA Immo is developing and realising these two projects in a joint venture with UBM Development Deutschland GmbH.
