CA Immo celebrates cube berlin's topping out - Smart building receives WiredScore Platinum certification for best connectivity

Berlin, 7 May 2018 - CA Immo celebrated the topping out ceremony for the cube berlin office building today, together with Senate Building Director Regula Lüscher. CA Immo is currently erecting the free-standing building at Washingtonplatz, directly next to Berlin Central Station. The technically and architecturally innovative building received a WiredScore Platinum certification, the highest category, even before its completion. The investment runs to some 100 million euros. The building has around 17,000 m² of leasable usable area. CA Immo was able to sell the building to TH Real Estate before construction began.

Together with the builders, Berlin politicians and public administration representatives and the architects, the building at Washingtonplatz was topped out today.

Guido Schütte, Head of CA Immo Berlin, thanked all project participants in his welcoming remarks and emphasised: "The cube is the Berlin office building for visionaries, trendsetters and people who make things possible. As a smart building, it sets new technological standards and thus meets the wishes and business models of our tenants in an increasingly networked, digital world. CA Immo is once again taking innovative approaches with cube berlin and will be using the experience it gains there in the company's existing buildings. However, cube berlin is not only a new urban benchmark of CA Immo in terms of technology. The spectacular design by 3XN Architekten sets an architectural exclamation mark here next to the Central Station - the gateway to the capital for tens of thousands of travellers daily."

Regula Lüscher, Senate Building Director for Berlin and State Secretary for Urban Development, praised the building's urban integration: "cube berlin is a free-standing building that unites. With its striking glass façade, permeable ground floor zone and publicly accessible roof area, the cube interacts playfully with the southern forecourt of the Central Station in all directions."

The construction of cube berlin started at the beginning of 2017. From the outside, the four-sided building in front of Berlin Central Station looks like an abstract modern sculpture. The double façade has dynamic recesses that create room to step out. Each of the ten upper floors has a terrace running across the whole of one side of the building, alternating from floor to floor. A roof terrace running across the building in the same manner offers views over all of Berlin. The office building has around 17,000 m² of leasable usable area. For the shell, about 15,000 m³ of concrete and about 3,200 metric tonnes (3,150 long tons) of steel were used. The rental areas are flexibly expandable and allow for all modern office types. After a construction period of almost three years, the cube will be completed by the end of 2019.

CA Immo is constructing cube berlin as a smart commercial building. The aim is to optimally support the needs and processes of the tenants and their employees using intelligent technologies. In addition, the networking of all technical systems in an artificial intelligence (the so-called "brain") and the use of sensors will optimise the operation of the building. For the tenants, the complete "operation" of cube berlin can be carried out via an app specially developed in cooperation with the prop tech startup Thing-It. This includes controlling room temperature and access controls, but also all services such as a parcel station and optional components such as room reservations and hot desking.

The WiredScore Platinum certification also attests to cube berlin's highest standards in terms of connectivity, digital infrastructure and future-proofing. This certificate was recently awarded to another new construction project by CA Immo, the office and hotel tower ONE in Frankfurt. CA Immo develops all new construction projects in compliance with the highest connectivity standards. CA Immo is even continuously upgrading existing buildings so that tenants can benefit from an optimised, digital infrastructure there as well.
